Title IX: Gender Equity in Education

OVERVIEW OF TITLE IX

Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972 is a federal law that prohibits discrimination based on sex in any educational program or activity receiving federal financial assistance. Title IX ensures equal access to educational opportunities, athletics, and protections against sexual harassment and discrimination.

TITLE IX RIGHTS AND PROTECTIONS

As a student or staff member at Peabody Charter, you are entitled to the following rights under Title IX:

  • The right to an educational environment free from sex-based discrimination or harassment.
  • Equal access to academic courses, activities, and athletic opportunities.
  • The right to file a complaint if you feel your rights under Title IX have been violated.
  • The right to receive a prompt and equitable response to your complaint.

REPORTING A TITLE IX CONCERN
If you believe that you or someone else has been discriminated against or harassed based on sex, please contact the Peabody Charter Title IX Coordinator immediately.
You can file a complaint by using the following methods:

The Title IX Coordinator is responsible for overseeing compliance with Title IX, including addressing and resolving any complaints or concerns regarding discrimination based on sex.

Complaint Investigation and Grievance Procedures

Peabody Charter follows a specific grievance process for handling Title IX complaints, which includes the following steps:

  1. Filing a Complaint: Any individual may report sex-based discrimination or harassment.
  2. Initial Assessment: The Title IX Coordinator will conduct an initial review to determine whether the complaint falls under Title IX jurisdiction.
  3. Investigation: A thorough and impartial investigation will be conducted. Both parties will have the opportunity to present evidence and witnesses.
  4. Decision: After the investigation, a written determination regarding responsibility will be provided to both parties.
  5. Appeal Process: Either party may appeal the decision within 10 days after receiving the determination.
